Cool Katlego

Wendy & Thulani welcomed their gorgeous little Katlego into the world recently. He is already a very chilled little guy which makes life easier for mum & dad. His brother Kamo & sister Tshegofastso are also fans which made my job pretty easy too. My biggest issue was not stealing all three kids when I left. Well done Wendy & Thulani, you've got a cutie.

Awesome Amelia

Whenever I meet with clients I talk to them about timelessness, I talk about how I am still learning from photographers who shot 40, 50, 60 years ago. Dorothea Lange, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Nan Goldin, Diane Arbus, Margaret Bourke-White, WeeGee. I still find new meaning in those pictures each time I return to them. And they had no instagram, no vintage filters, no trendy today but cringey tomorrow (Yes, black&white pictures with selective colour I am talking about you). You will live with these pictures, well you should if you like them. They'll be rehung in new offices as you are promoted or packed in metres of bubble wrap before you move house to accomodate your ever expanding family. They need to be timeless. They are here to stay. And while I am no Diane Arbus or Cartier-Bresson I do hope that one day little Amelia and her dad Ben can look back at this picture and fondly remember their awesome dog Malora.

Heather & James in Wakkerstroom

I first met Heather when I was shooting portraits for the Mail&Guardian's 200 Young South Africans publication last year. We spent over an hour chatting on the roof of her Sandton office surrounded by plants, despite being on the 378th floor or somewhere equally as high, me shooting portraits and her patiently standing and sitting and then standing and sitting (I'm an indecisive perfectionist). Fast forward to her and James's wedding a few weeks ago,I'm second shooting for Dror and she is a little less patient, she just wants to get M-A-R-R-I-E-D. And get married they did. In gorgeous chantilly lace and morning suits. With an old vintage car that gleamed in the sun. With an African choir that brought goosebumps to your skin. And music that rocked and wine that flowed and sky lanterns that (mostly) soared. I was tempted to dance more than once but how can you not move when Paul Simon or Bruce Springsteen are playing?! Wakkerstroom, you'll be seeing a lot more Joburgers in the future I can almost guarantee it.

Kamryn Marita Minto

Kamryn Marita Minto, with your chubby little baby thighs and soft baby skin. Your fat little canckles and wiggling perfect toes. You are the most delightful surprise. "My kid doesn't play by the rules" your Mama says and I can hear the sly pride in her voice. And she's right. Already you seem so content, calm and inquisitive at the same time. You are awesome and I think they should keep you.
